Writing Circles

Wild Writing Flowers

In the Writing Circle, we use a technique called Wild Writing, developed by Laurie Wagner.

In this practice we write continuously, pen never leaving the page. This helps to keep the critic at bay, quiet the perfectionist, and access our true voice.

In this practice, we’re encouraged to write freely and openly. This no-agenda technique gives space for us to tap into our interior, less explored selves.

In this practice we’re reminded that we don’t need to be fancy or smart or anything other than ourselves to belong.

In this Circle we read our stories aloud and listen to others read. We don't critique or give feedback but instead we witness by listening deeply.

The non-judgmental nature of this practice has the power to spill over into all aspects of our lives..

THIS IS FOR YOU IF:

  • you seek a grounding practice and suspect your true voice has more to say and are interested in hearing it,

  • you want to write but haven’t made the time or space to do it,

  • you're ready for a deeper connection to yourself,

  • you have the courage to read your writing aloud and to listen to others read sometimes raw and personal material,

  • you’re NOT looking for instruction and feedback from this experience.

HOW IT WORKS

During each Circle I read a poem, offer prompts and encouragement and set the timer.  After we write for 10-15 minutes, we come back and take turns reading our unedited words. We honor each other by listening deeply without comment (kind hand gestures welcome).

The Writing Circle is for you if you seek to express yourself without needing to explain or make sense, crave space in your week to write, and wish to be part of a supportive small group.
